Third Grade
|
|
Meet our teachers
Third Grade is an exciting time at Oasis Elementary. This is the year that your child will begin his or her journey of Independence. They will develop the study skills needed to be successful throughout their educational career. They will master multiplication skills and learn many concepts that will be built upon each year. In reading, their horizons will be broadened through the world of literature and various Core Knowledge stories such as Alice in Wonderland. As we study the Solar System they learn that Third Grade is the Happiest Place on Earth!

MEET OUR TEACHERS:
3rd Grade Summer Reading Log
Parents…earn 3 hours of volunteer time….
Parents… all you have to do is hold your child accountable to read ten hours over summer vacation. Please help them to fill out the log on the back and keep track of their hours. For each book you read, please be sure to initial.
Students…….Your future third grade teachers would like you to read each and every day. We recommend reading fifteen minutes each day. We would also like you to read books that are on your current AR reading level. Pick books that you enjoy and that you find exciting. Reading should be fun!
We ask that you fill out this reading log. Please return it on OPEN HOUSE NIGHT. Don’t forget to log your hours on the sheet provided. This will help your parents get volunteer hours! Just write the title of the book, the number of minutes that you read that book, along with your parent’s signature.
Enjoy your summer and happy reading! Check out this great reading site: www.bookadventure.com
We can’t wait to see you next year! J

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I attended Brooklyn College where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I’ve been teaching for 6 years now and have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade. This is my first year teaching third grade and I absolutely love it. My husband and I moved to Cape Coral 4 years ago with our 2 children, Destiny, 9 and Ryan, 6. They both attend Oasis Elementary and I couldn’t be more happy with the education they are receiving here at Oasis.

Jewell Emer

Hi, my name is Brenda Emer but I go by my middle name of Jewell. I teach 3rd grade here at Oasis Elementary and absolutely love what I am doing! I graduated from Barry University with a degree in Education and owned a bookstore for many years before that. My husband, Ray and I moved down here 8 years ago to be closer to family and get some quality time with them. We have a daughter, Angela, who is almost 16 and a son, Hunter, who attends Oasis High School (15). We also have 3 grown sons that we are proud of who are all in the military. The all live in Atlanta along with our only granddaughter, Alaina.
I feel I have been lucky to teach here at Oasis with such a supportive staff and a great group of students. Third grade is going to have an incredible year!

Michele Scoma

I have been teaching third grade for eight years and this is my fifth year at Oasis. I started here when the school first opened, and, I simply LOVE it!
Originally from Long Island, New York, I graduated from C.W. Post College of Long Island University with a B.A. degree in Comparative Languages (German and French). After college, I worked in Public Relations for an Austrian company in New York and was able to use German every day, but I still wanted to pursue my first career choice – teaching. At that time, it was almost impossible to get a teaching position in NY.
I made it down to Cape Coral, about 20 years ago, with my wonderful husband, Lou (also known as Dr. Scoma). We have one son, Travis, who is in the 12th grade. Once in Florida, I decided to continue my education at FGCU where I earned my degree in Elementary Education. As they say, the rest is history!
I’m so proud to be a part of the Oasis family! Every day here is a delight to be treasured.
