Meet our teacher
The gifted program at OCES is an enhanced curriculum based on Core Knowledge concepts, and is differentiated for each grade level. This fast paced curriculum extends student’s learning as it incorporates critical thinking skills, research and problem solving as well as a greater level of complexity across subject areas than would normally be found in the classroom. It allows students to work at their own pace, so that areas of interest can be explored according to individual needs. The gifted program here is a part-time program that services students one day each week by grade level. Students are selected for this program by his/her classroom teacher. The process starts with a six week observation period where work samples/anecdotal records are collected. The Gifted Assessment Team will evaluate the student and his/her portfolio and will make a recommendation for gifted testing. A school psychologist will administer an IQ test to determine if the student qualifies for the program. Once a child qualifies for gifted services, they will continue to receive gifted services throughout their entire academic career.
